MGI Asia Area Meeting, Vietnam 2016
A total of 20 members representing 13 firms congregated in Hanoi for the 2016 Asia Area meeting. Held at the Movenpick Hotel, Hanoi, on the 26 & 27 August, this year’s meeting saw a record number of attendees. Some of the members brought along other managers and partners from within their firms.
Thanks to Vietnam Auditing & Valuation Company Limited (AVA) for its support in hosting the dinner and the traditional Vietnamese cultural water puppet show.
The meeting started with welcome addresses by Asia International Committee member, Imran Assan and General Director of AVA, Nguyen Min Hai.
New Member Introduction
MGI Asia Area was pleased to welcome a new member from Indonesia. Partner, Gideon Adi, introduced Jakarta-based firm MGI Gideon Adi & Rekan. We look forward to working alongside them.
MGI Worlwide Updates
CEO, Clive Viegas Bennett, updated the Asia members on the focus of MGI Worldwide with regards to member quality and adding value to membership. Clive touched on the following areas:
- The past year – membership numbers; quality & self-assessment; member recruitment;
- The future – Adding value through business exchange, brand strength & knowledge exchange
International Marketing Director Maxine Brock (through Clive) talked about the marketing initiatives that are underway which include:
- Knowledge exchange
Day 2 started with the Area Coordinator, Audrey Danasamy, providing a detailed analysis on the member satisfaction survey for the MGI Asia area, where 80% of members responded to the survey.
Identifying the key needs from the member survey, members broke up 2 groups.
Group 1 : How do we collaborate to improve our business referral rates.
Group 2 : How do we add to our firms reputation through membership of an international organisation.
After a short discussion, both groups presented their findings. They then reformed to brainstorm on:
1. Practice groups
2. Sales and Marketing support
A list of action items was created and prioritised. Champions to lead the initiatives were also identified. Thank you to the volunteers!
Technology and the profession
Members watched a 10 minute video of an interview with Daniel Susskind, co-author of 'The Future of the Professions'. Following that, each member shared how they are using technology to improve their practice – from softwares, to LAN connection and also in marketing their firm.
Panel discussion: OXFAM Asia project
Thanadee Hongratana-uthai, whose firm Nathee Audit Office Co. Limited, Thailand, successfully bid for a cross border project from OXFAM Asia, shared his experience together with Thann Bunthoeun from APV (Cambodia) Co., Ltd. and Harold Castillo from Gatmaitan and Associates, CPA's whose firms were also involved in the project. The group highlighted the challenges faced and how things can be done differently in the future.
The final part of the meeting was dedicated to the administration and financials of MGI Asia. The accounts for the year ending June 2016 and the budget for the year 2016/2017 was tabled.
The 2017 meeting will be held in Bangalore, India on the 4-5th August 2017.
