2016 MGI Australasia Area Meeting Highlights
The 2016 Australasian conference was held in April in New Zealand, in the stunningly picturesque town of Queenstown. Hosted by MGI Worldwide New Zealand firm, MGI Auckland, it attracted a total of 38 members representing all 10 member firms across Australia and New Zealand.
Following the opening welcome by MGI Auckland Partner, Nick Francis, delegates were given an insightful presentation by the main sponsor, MYOB in which Kevin Rawlings, Head of Business Development, shared MYOB’s product development plans, their views on where accounting practices are headed in the future, and what they were experiencing on the ground working directly with firms in the SME space.
International Updates and Marketing News
Matthew Moy from MGI Sydney followed by giving an update from the International Committee and Grant Field, Chairman of MGI Australasia then presented on the annual progress and future direction of MGI Australasia.
Casey Lightbody, MGI Australasia Marketing Coordinator provided an reported on MGI’s marketing activities to date and then, along with Grant Field, revealed the new MGI Business Index which is the innovative successor to the MGI Family and Private Business Survey, an initiative that MGI Australasia has conducted in conjunction with RMIT University for over 20 years.
Cherie O’Toole from FeePay, another of the sponsors, then spoke about the opportunity of offering clients an alternative fee payment option through fee funding.
After a delicious lunch was served, members divided themselves into committee meetings and the rest of the afternoon was spent discussing various tax and practice management matters at the respective groups.
Presenting with Focus & Superpowers for Business
Tony Bulmer opened the second day with a presentation in which he talked about how to present with focus. During the session, Tony discussed the advantages of using a structured process, starting with the end in mind, to communicate and deliver a message across any platform with clarity and emphasis.
The afternoon session involved an interactive and engaging presentation by Sarah McCrum in which she shared her ideas on how to tap into and leverage superpowers and optimise personal energy, in a presentation titled Superpowers for Business - a new way to create an outstanding personal and business life.
The evening’s activities included a boat trip on board the TSS Earnslaw to Walter Peak Station where another delicious dinner was enjoyed. It was a great opportunity for members to strengthen ties with eachother, exchange ideas and plan joint actions for the future growth of each firm and the entire Australasian network.
