MGI European Area Meeting, the Netherlands 2016

Meeting Overview

Huis ter Duin Hotel, NoordwijkThe 2016 MGI European Area meeting took place in June, at the Grand Hotel Huis Ter Duin, situated in the historic summer resort of Noordwijk near Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

The meeting attracted 74 delegates from 16 European countries, from MGI UK & Ireland, MGI North America, as well as delegates from Mackrell International and members of MGI International Committee. Some of the members brought along other managers and partners from within their firms. In terms of content, the meeting was a follow-up event of the MGI Worldwide/Mint Alliance European Area Meeting 2015 in Mello (France). Relaxed atmosphere, team work, free time activities, open debate and fun characterised the event.

Collaboration, Quality and Engagement

During the 2015 MGI/Mint European Area Meeting in Mello (France) the attending members had intense debates during the open space discussions and defined the following areas to develop strategies in order to assist members to be more successful with their MGI/Mint membership:

1. Collaborative Business Building

2. Improving the Quality of Service members provide for each other (not from a technical point of view).

3. Developing a culture of engagement.

Participants at the meeting accepted 9 simple rules to follow:

The members of the European Coordinating Committee (ECC) presented ideas in the area of Collaborative Business Building, Quality of Service and Engagement to debate it further. Participants worked in teams to discuss the presented ideas and proposed three action points. At the end of the teamwork session all participants were asked to personally commit to a minimum of one of the proposed action points.

New member introductions

MGI European Area was pleased to welcome new members. Erik van der Kooi who has been with MGI for three years introduced his new firm MGI Scope, based in the Nethelands. Razik Saram introduced the newly joined Canadian member firm Huron Partners LLP from Mississauga, Ontario, a large city within the Greater Toronto Area.

MGI Update

Thomas Althoff updated delegates on the work of MGI International Committee and Michael Grüne shared information about the work of the Technical Committee. The first day of the conference ended up with organised free time activities. Participants had the opportunity to choose from three activities: running, cycling, and beach football.

Sharon Bayley on Similarity of Spirit and Diversity of Strength

Key note speaker Sharon Baylay, MGI European Area Meeting 2016 resizeThe second day of the conference started with the key note speech by Sharon Baylay titled 'Similarity of Spirit and Diversity of Strength'. The presentation from Sharon gave us insight into how to foster similarity of spirit and diversity of strength in our own teams, and how we can extend this into wider teams of people, across organisations, where there is a common goal and opportunity to bring people together to achieve an amazing outcome.

Professional team conversations

Probably one of the most appreciated items on the agenda was the professional team conversations. Participants had the opportunity to take part in conversations led by MGI experts on:

VAT - led by Francesco Bartolucci of Studio Pragma, Italy

Technology - led by Erik Emilsson of Revideco AB, Sweden

Transfer Pricing - led by László Killik of BPO AUDIT TAX, Hungary

HR - led by Clive Bennett CEO of MGI Worldwide

Marketing - led by Maxine Brock of MGI Worldwide
