As the global pandemic has forced people to move their professional lives online, firms have been faced with added pressure to ensure that their systems remain protected from cyber attack. Terms - such as viruses, malware, cybersecurity, data breach - which were rarely used outside the IT department, have now become commonplace.
Members share knowledge
Last month, MGI Latin America's southern subregion, which includes firms in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay, met virtually to discuss this pressing topic. Jesús Soto, leader of IT Projects at Chile-based MGI Hernán Espejo & Asociados led the talk entitled “Cybersecurity in times of pandemic for companies, employees, clients and other collaborators”.
Jesús shared his knowledge with colleagues, clearly explaining such concepts as cybersecurity and cyberspace, and terms such as viruses and malware, which he set out using easy-to-understand diagrams and visuals. He then spoke a little about risk management and the cybersecurity ecosystem, finishing with a series of recommendations.
“Today we talk about business resilience, which is the ability to recover from an incident in the fastest way. Strengthening the cybersecurity ecosystem is not going to prevent it from happening, but when it does, it will allow for faster recovery, ” commented Jesús Soto.
In addition to Jesús' presentation, Hernán Espejo, partner at MGI Hernán Espejo & Asociados reviewed some of the most relevant IT projects in which they have participated, offering his experience and resources to collaborate with other countries in the region and the around the world.
Members share experiences
The session also provided opportunity for members to share their own experiences regarding cybersecurity. Doubts and questions were shared and opinions exchanged in a lively discussion. It was concluded that nothing and nobody is 100% safe from attack and everything is potentially vulnerable. Members went away with food for thought!
Following the positive feedback from the session, MGI Latin America hopes to hold another similar session with Jesús Soto, for the whole of the region, in the near future.
"The presentation was excellent and everyone was extremely happy. So much so that we will organise something similar for all of LATAM, probably for October / November."
Andrea Pallas, Regional Director for Latin America.
