2nd June 2016
The 2016 MGI North America Area meeting took place at the Mokara Hotel & Spa, situated alongside the historic River Walk in the heart of San Antonio, Texas, USA.
The meeting attracted delegates from across US, Canada and UK. Members this year were encouraged to bring along other managers and partners from within their firm to network and experience what an MGI conference has to offer. This combined with a new roundtable format provided plenty of opportunity for delegates, new and old, to collaborate and talk together.
New Members Huron Partners LLP
MGI North America were also pleased to welcome new members Sunny Sanghera and Razik Saram from newly joined member firm Huron Partners LLP from Mississauga, Ontario, a large Canadian city within the Greater Toronto Area. A young dynamic 3-partner firm with ambitions to grow. Sunny introduced their firm and gave those attending an insight into the Greater Toronoto area, their partner profile and areas of serrvice.
Leveraging Membership and sharing resources
Clive Bennett, MGI Worldwide CEO, presented on the future strategy of MGI. Maxine Brock, MGI International Marketing Director and Nancy Damato, MGI North America Marketing, talked about leveraging membership, sharing resources and creating opportunities which led to roundtable discussions on collaborating with one another to service clients both nationally and internationally.

Trends & Predictions and Member Best Practices
Joe Tarasco, MGI North America Area Coordiantor, presented “Trends and Predictions in the Accounting Profession”, Tom Neff from member firm RINA accountancy corporation presented an update from the International Tax Committee, and Charles Postal from member firm Santos Postal & Company, PC facilitated the always popular “Member Best Practices” session—where members share practice management systems and initiatives that have been successful for their firms—an ideal opportunity to showcase their abilities and resources to other members.

A presentation from Tax Credit Co., (a long-time conference sponsor) on new tax incentives was very informative, and will be followed up with a CPE webinar for members shortly.
Attendees were immersed in the San Antonio culture during their stay—steps from the historic Riverwalk—with a cocktail reception on the famous riverboats, entertainment from a Mariachi band with folkloric ballet dancers, a team-building activity featuring a margarita making competition, and plenty of delicious food. The post conference tour was a private guided tour of The Alamo and battlefields.
