Among the features of the new MGI UK&I website will be success stories involving member firms, highlighting the benefits of MGI membership, writes Paul Winder.

This will be updated each quarter from events noted in the newswire. At our conference in November, you gave me a long list of activities that have made MGI valuable to you and your clients. Whilst I am sure this success is continuing, I’m struggling to get feedback from many of you with regard to your activities over the last quarter. I have included some recent examples of MGI success stories below – I hope reading this will prompt you to let me have your feedback for the next quarter, as it is really useful to see what members have been doing.

Muras Baker Jones have clearly found their feet with MGI. The firm referred a client who was a UK-based parent company with numerous overseas subsidiaries to Toronto-based MGI member firm Baratz Judelman Preisz Pajak, which it has now appointed as auditors for its Canadian subsidiary. In addition to this, Muras Baker Jones consulted MGI in Australia for assistance on technical issues relating to the same group. The same client is also currently consulting Uruguay-based MGI member firm Consultora y Administradora – Suizo regarding the setting up of an operation in South America.

For Muras Baker Jones, being able to put its clients in touch with fellow MGI members provides the reassurance that they will be receiving the level and quality of service they expect.

We continue to see work passing between firms in our region, including Rickard Keen carrying out stock takes for Watson Buckle, Milsted Langdon acting as experts for a client of CBW and CI Accounting working on a major trust case for Watson Buckle. Rowleys have been assisting Midgley Snelling with an R & D claim.

A particularly interesting case highlighted by Elaine Durrant at the last Tax Forum involved a client with a property portfolio in the UK owned via a Panamanian company – not your everyday problem! She commented, however, that MGI Montufar and Asociados in Panama had been immensely helpful – another great example of where MGI can add real value to a client, even where there is no actual referral.
