Last year’s conference, which took place at the LEGOLAND Windsor Resort Hotel from 28 to 30 November, was a huge success, writes Paul Winder.

It was a real delight to see so many of you at the event, as well as seeing plenty of new faces.

The feedback I have received so far tells me that everyone enjoyed the mix of speakers and location.

The theme of last year’s conference was ‘The Morality of Business’ and we had some truly excellent guest speakers, including rogue trader Nick Leeson, former MI5 agent Annie Machon, Olympus whistleblower Michael Woodford, ‘The Great Tax Robbery’ author Richard Brooks and ICAEW ethics and integrity manager Liz Higgs.

We asked three people attending the conference for the first time for their thoughts on their experiences. Their comments are below:

Margaret Ross, Jeffrey Crawford & Co, Edinburgh: “My first MGI meeting hit all the right spots – excellent interesting speakers, a very well organised event, great fun on the social side but above all a chance to get to know MGI members. The warmth of the welcome and wealth of shared experience made this a very positive experience and one which I look forward to building on. When I first met Paul Winder he emphasised how open the MGI membership is to sharing ideas and experience. This sparked my interest in MGI and my first meeting certainly bears out this aspect of MGI membership.”

Leon Gendelman, Kirsch Kohn & Bridge LLP, California: “The conference was exceptional – I thoroughly enjoyed the programme. The event provided a great atmosphere with events and plentiful networking opportunities. I look forward to future conferences and events, and continuing to explore cross-border business opportunities.”

Erik van der Kooi, MGI B&P, Netherlands: “MGI conferences are all about building strong relationships and if anything represents building something very strong, piece by piece, then it’s Lego, so the location was very fitting. Paul Winder and the MGI team gave us a great time at the conference – we are now very much looking forward to the next conference.”
