High commitment numbers to MGI/SWAT UK training initiative

At the Managing Partner Forum in April we discussed the idea of running the SWAT UK Professional Skills Development Programme as an in-house MGI training course to create the added value of developing further peer groups within MGI, says Paul Winder.

To date, 10 firms have responded about this initiative with eight wanting to be involved and 15-17 delegates being put forward.

For more details on the course structure have a look at:https://www.swat.co.uk/Training/ProfessionalSkillsTraining.aspx.

Here is an outline of the cost which has been negotiated. I have asked that the first two half day sessions become the main day for our “non-partner” event this year which would be charged at SWAT UK’s day rate. This would not normally include all the materials and follow up calls/coaching/feedback that attendees get when booking individually on the PSDP programme, but in this instance it will as a way of launching this MGI training initiative.

Where we hold the courses depends on who wants to attend. If we can hold them in member boardrooms we will obviously avoid additional costs and attendees get the chance to visit each other’s firm. Venue costs not being included are one of the reasons for a price differential. As managing partners can get to London for a 10am start I’m sure those attending these courses could as well. Other locations will depend on accessibility for all and subject to numbers we could run more than one group.

However, for the first day, if we follow the same format as in previous years for the non-partner event that would be on a Friday with an overnight stay and then a ‘getting to know about MGI’ and each other’s firms on the Saturday morning.

The only additional cost would be food and accommodation. The date of 19 September has been tentatively booked with SWAT UK subject to feedback.

SWAT UK Caveats

In giving a price per delegate per workshop, the following assumptions have been made:

  1. Prices are to attend in-house MGI only workshops, not SWAT UK public PSDP courses.
  2. There is a minimum of 10 delegates per course, with a maximum of 16 delegates per course (NB. There is a maximum of eight delegates on the Sales Training for Professional Firms and Presentation Skills/Pitching for Business courses) to allow for sufficient delegate participation and 1-2-1 interaction during the course.
  3. The price includes:
    1. the course and course notes;
    2. all supporting materials and books issued to delegates ahead of the individual workshops;
    3. a one hour coaching call per delegate after each workshop to discuss progress on the action points they had set during the workshop;
    4. feedback to the partners of the firm on their respective delegates; and
    5. access to the bimonthly PSDP newswire that is issued to PSDP delegates only.
  4. The courses run in the same sequence as SWAT UK’s public PSDP programme, with half day courses running in the same morning and afternoon slots as the public programme.
