The 2026 MGI Africa Regional Meeting, themed “Transforming the accounting profession in Africa: challenges and the way forward,” will bring together members from across the continent to explore emerging trends shaping the profession.
Delegates will have the opportunity to discuss sector challenges and chart practical ways to navigate an evolving landscape—embracing innovative strategies, leveraging technological advancements, and fostering a culture of adaptability and continuous learning.
Hosted by Haruna Yahaya & Co, the meeting will be held at the Radisson Blu Anchorage Hotel in Lagos, one of the fastest-growing megacities in the world. As Nigeria’s largest city and West Africa’s economic powerhouse, Lagos boasts the second-highest GDP in Africa, one of the continent’s busiest seaports, and a thriving innovation ecosystem—home to five of Africa’s seven tech unicorns. Its energy, connectivity, and entrepreneurial spirit make it a compelling hub for meaningful regional dialogue.
Nigeria is Africa’s largest economy and most populous nation, with more than 220 million inhabitants. While historically reliant on oil, the country has seen strong performance in non-oil sectors such as telecommunications and financial services. Since the change in administration in May 2023, Nigeria has implemented bold macroeconomic reforms aimed at promoting long-term stability, including the removal of fuel subsidies, exchange rate unification, and a shift toward market-reflective pricing. These measures have helped reduce fiscal pressures, strengthen external balances, and re-anchor monetary policy on price stability.
Economic momentum continues to build: Nigeria’s real GDP grew by 4.23% year-on-year in Q2 2025, with notable gains in both the oil and non-oil sectors.
Against this backdrop, Lagos stands as the ideal host city for the 2026 MGI Africa Regional Meeting. Its diversified economy, deep talent pool, and leadership in finance and technology offer unparalleled opportunities for networking, business development, and collaboration. The city’s dynamism reflects the very future the meeting seeks to shape—one where the African members innovate, and lead with confidence.
I hope to see you there!
Regional Director
