Collaboration in action at the 2026 International Tax Seminar
Ideas were exchanged and international connections strengthened as more than 20 tax professionals from 10 countries gathered in Heemstede, Netherlands, for the 2026 International Tax Seminar.
The event showcased the power of collaboration across MGI, bringing together specialists from diverse jurisdictions to tackle the increasingly complex tax and mobility issues facing clients operating across borders.
A new interactive approach to learning
This year's seminar introduced a new format, becoming a standalone event and moving away from traditional presentations towards an interactive, case study-led workshop. The result was a highly engaging programme that encouraged participants to share experiences, compare approaches and learn directly from one another.
The event opened with a joint professional development session alongside delegates from the International Audit & Accounting Seminar. Led by Joanna Gaudoin of ClientWise Limited, the session explored the relationship and communication skills that underpin successful client service and business development. Through practical exercises and lively discussion, participants examined how building trust, strengthening collaboration and developing deeper client relationships can create opportunities for growth.
Tackling complex cross-border tax challenges
The technical programme, facilitated by Bart Kosters of IBFD, challenged delegates to work through real-world scenarios involving cross-border activities and global mobility. Topics included permanent establishment exposure, profit allocation, withholding taxes and VAT, before moving into complex global mobility considerations such as residence, PE exposure and employment-related withholding taxes.
One of the seminar's greatest strengths was the diversity of experience in the room. Working in mixed-country groups, delegates shared insights from their local jurisdictions and explored the practical implications of international tax rules in different markets. The discussions were dynamic, thought-provoking and highly relevant to the challenges clients face today.
Building global connections and lasting value
The seminar demonstrated MGI's Power to Grow in action. By connecting expertise across borders, members gained practical knowledge, exchanged experiences and strengthened relationships across the network. The discussions generated ideas and connections that will continue to support both firms and clients long after the event.
