Highlights from MGI’s UK & Ireland Region Conference in Edinburgh, Scotland

MGI UK & Ireland was delighted to host its first region conference in the beautiful city of Edinburgh, Scotland. Held at the Waldorf Astoria, we had a fantastic turnout with over 100 delegates and sponsors in attendance including representation from all of our member firms in the UK & Ireland and a good show of members from across Europe, and as far as South Africa and India.

Day 1

The conference started with an interview with the distinguished Scottish historian, Professor Sir Thomas Devine, focusing on the union of Scotland and which gave everyone a flavour of the history of  Scottish Independence, prompting many questions from the floor.

We then followed with an MGI update and introduced the entire central team to our members. MGI’s Rickard Luckin shared their inspiring journey as a 'Best Company,' and we enjoyed some energetic presentations on People & Risk by Margi Luzanycia. Practical guidance on risk avoidance in professional indemnity and engagement letters were expertly provided by Neil Williams and Karen Eckstein to round off the afternoon.

The weather was kind during our guided walk to dinner, revealing some lesser-known sights in Edinburgh. We were then piped to dinner, where we indulged in Haggis tasting and an awards ceremony to conclude the evening.

Day 2

The final day had a strong ‘Tech’ theme, featuring presentations from Daniel Teacher of T-Tech on AI, a Microsoft update, and insights from Phil Daniels and Daniel Lawrence of Bots for That on how robots can enhance business.

MGI’s Karen Scholes shared her role in ICAS and discussed risks in our profession, and there was an update on the MGI member survey results. Ian Marrow from Rickard Luckin also shared his AI experience and offered tips on starting the AI journey.

We finished the conference with an insightful and inspirational presentation by Mick Jackson of Wildhearts Group, who shared his story, inspiring us to make positive changes in our businesses.

MGI UK & Ireland Regional Coordinator, Rachel Pugh comments:

“Many of you are aware that I took over as MGI UK & Ireland Coordinator from Paul Winder in June, and while he initiated some of the planning, credit must go to him for laying a solid foundation. The event turned out to be a huge success!
Thank you to all who attended and I look forward to seeing you all and more next year!
