International Tax Seminar 2025 takes place in Budapest
Set against the stunning backdrop of Budapest, this year’s MGI Worldwide International Tax Seminar took place on 10–11 June, just ahead of the European Conference.
The event welcomed 32 delegates from 18 European firms, alongside members from the UK, Mauritius, and our sister network, Mackrell International – making it a truly global gathering of tax professionals.

Key sessions at the seminar
Tackling tax avoidance among the wealthiest One of the key sessions explored the increasing global focus on high-net-worth individuals, including proposals such as a 2% minimum tax on billionaires. Delegates also discussed cross-border issues with gifts and inheritances, highlighting how the absence of treaties in some jurisdictions can lead to double taxation.
Pillar 2 Global Update This session focused on the evolving global minimum tax framework, with particular attention on a recent US executive order challenging extraterritorial taxes. The discussion explored potential retaliatory measures by the US against countries targeting American companies – a critical area for firms with multinational clients.
Practical case studies & peer exchange Afternoon sessions provided an opportunity for delegates to dive into real-world tax scenarios through peer-led discussions and case studies. Guided by our International Tax Risk Matrix project, firms examined situations from Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Denmark, the UK, Germany, and Italy – helping members improve support for cross-border clients.

Don’t miss out next year
The annual Tax Seminar is open to all MGI Worldwide members, though we recommend at least two years’ experience in international tax to get the most out of it. MGI encourages member firms to send younger professionals, as it’s a fantastic opportunity to learn from peers, build confidence, and develop technical skills.
Keep an eye on the Events page for details on next year’s seminar – it’s an experience not to miss!
