MGI Australasia members come together in Queenstown for annual conference
Last month, more than 70 members of the MGI Australasia network came together in the beautiful city of Queenstown, New Zealand, for the region’s annual conference.
This year’s theme was technology and AI in accounting, and it certainly gave members plenty to talk about. Across the sessions, conversations focused on what AI means for firms in practical terms, from the way teams work day to day, to how they can continue strengthening the support and advice they provide to clients.
An insightful few days in Queenstown
Members heard from a strong mix of speakers, including Inbal Rodnay, Melissa Crawford of Tech with Heart, Jehan Casinader, and James Bergin from Xero. Together, they brought different perspectives on AI, automation, the future of work, and the human skills that continue to matter in a changing profession.
A message that stayed with many in the room was that AI is not here to replace what we do, but to help us do it better. The focus was very much on how emerging technology can support better service, stronger advice and more efficient ways of working.
Celebrating members across the region
A real highlight of the conference was the launch of the inaugural MGI Australasia Awards, recognising the firms and individuals making a strong contribution across the network.
Wallace Diack +MORE received the Innovation Award for its integrated approach to technology, automation and AI-driven workflows, creating a more connected way of working that supports both clients and internal teams.
Elizaveta Lewis of MGI Sydney received the Collaboration Award for her work connecting with firms across Australasia and internationally, helping to build stronger relationships and support better outcomes for clients.
MGI Joyce|Dickson was named Firm of the Year, recognising its strong “Think MGI Australasia first” approach, including its contribution to specialist support, shared resources, leadership initiatives and the MGI Australasia Academy.
Executive Committee update
The conference also marked an important moment for the MGI Australasia Executive Committee.
After nine years of dedicated service, Rob Lanzilli has stepped down from his role. The network extends sincere thanks to Rob for his leadership, commitment and contribution over the years.
Members also welcomed Angela Robins to the Executive Committee as the representative for MGI Adelaide.
Thank you to everyone involved
A sincere thank you goes to the sponsors whose support helped make the conference possible, and to the MGI +MORE team for coordinating the event and bringing members together for a valuable and energising few days in Queenstown.
