47th ASEAN Summit concludes in Kuala Lumpur: key business outcomes for MGI members
The 47th ASEAN Summit, held in Kuala Lumpur from 26–28 October 2025, concluded successfully under Malaysia’s Chairmanship.
The Summit delivered several outcomes of particular relevance to businesses and professional services across the region, including Timor-Leste’s formal accession as ASEAN’s 11th member and strengthened economic integration measures across the region.
Unfortunately, the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord which was drawn up at the summit between Cambodia and Thailand, though still formally in place, has effectively been broken — its core commitments to ceasefire and non-use of force being ignored amid renewed fighting.
Positive engagement
Leaders had the opportunity to engage with external partners such as China, the US, Japan, India, and the EU, resulting in trade, investment, and green finance commitments that will create new opportunities for cross-border advisory and professional services.
The Summit also marked the formal handover of ASEAN Chairmanship from Malaysia to the Philippines for 2026. The Philippines will focus on fostering regional prosperity, sustainable growth, and enhanced people-to-people engagement, providing further opportunities for MGI members across the region.
