MGI Wood Meadow six months on

Mindrum update Mar 2025 600x340.jpg

The MGI Wood Meadow at Mindrum Farm was launched in 2024, inspired by a commitment made at our Rome AGM to plant a tree for every delegate in attendance. Six months on from our last update, the project continues to develop.

While much of the land has been lying dormant over the winter months, the first signs of spring are beginning to bring the meadow back to life. Since the trees were first planted, the space has continued to develop. Over the past year, young saplings have strengthened their roots, meadow grasses have matured, and the area is slowly becoming the biodiverse habitat we hoped to create when the project began (and the pigs are enjoying their foraging!). Even in its early stages, it’s encouraging to see the meadow starting to settle into the landscape at Mindrum Farm.

International Day of Forests

With International Day of Forests taking place on 21 March, it felt like a fitting moment to share a short update. Established by the United Nations, the day highlights the importance of forests and trees in supporting biodiversity, improving air and water quality, and helping tackle climate change — something our wood meadow project aims to contribute to in its own small way.

The project forms part of MGI Worldwide’s wider commitment to supporting environmental initiatives that benefit both nature and future generations.

“Projects like this are about thinking beyond today – creating a landscape that will support biodiversity and the environment long into the future. Knowing that this space will continue to grow and thrive for generations makes the initiative particularly special for everyone involved.”

Nicki Lynn, Operations Manager, MGI Worldwide

A key part of the project’s success is the ongoing stewardship of the land by the team at Mindrum Farm. Their expertise and commitment to sustainable land management continue to guide the development of the meadow and support wider biodiversity across the estate.

The work being carried out at Mindrum Farm has also attracted wider attention within the farming community. A recent feature in Farmers Guardian highlighted Tom Fairfax’s transition towards regenerative farming and his focus on improving soil health and resilience across the estate — an approach that aligns closely with the aims of the MGI Wood Meadow project.

“At Mindrum Farm we’re always looking at ways to work with nature and improve habitats across the estate. Projects like the MGI Wood Meadow show how partnerships can help create spaces that support biodiversity while enhancing the landscape for the future. It’s fantastic to see the meadow taking shape and we look forward to watching it continue to develop in the years ahead.”

As the trees grow and the meadow continues to develop, the project is already playing its part in supporting biodiversity and creating a greener landscape for the future.
