‘Proud’ Asia member speaks highly of MGI tax advice
It’s not just the big contracts and pitches to multinational clients where a bit of collaboration between MGI members pays off. Day-to-day, week-to-week. MGI firms from around the world are cooperating on a range of issues, from technical queries, specialist advice and local knowledge to sharing contacts and data.
Recent tax advice was invaluable
A recent tax query from a MGI member firm in South Korea highlights exactly how the close relations of members makes a real difference.
Seoul-based Hanmi Accounting Corporation, which joined the alliance in 2013, sought out other members as trusted sources for a tax query for a client who had income from a number of different countries within Asia and North America.
Managing partner and head of global services Young Ham immediately got in touch with member firms in Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan and the US to get the answers.
He contacted Kenneth Chau at Kenneth Chau & Co in Hong Kong; Imran Assan at MGI Menon & Associates in Singapore; Toshiyuki Hitomi at Japan’s Seiyu Audit Corporation; and Hani Sharestan at Wright Ford Young & Co in the US.
Together their collective responses meant he was able to deliver sound, accurate and timely information to the client.
Timely response, mutual growth
Mr Ham says the speedy response of fellow MGI members and the resultant advice made him feel “proud” to be part of MGI and notes that this is exactly the sort of work that will deliver mutual growth.
It’s this ability to tap into a wealth of expertise and resources, and get a timely response, that is proving invaluable for members as they seek to carve out a real competitive advantage in their local market.
How to connect with fellow members
Whether it’s regularly attending and making new contacts at the various regional and global MGI meetings, or just checking out the MGI member directory and picking up the phone, there is always someone within the alliance who can help. If you are unsure who to contact for specific advise, always get in touch with your Area Coordinator or in some cases, Clive Bennett, MGI CEO to plug the gap. Often these assurances that are gained can be invaluable when it comes to business.
