Hear why Melbourne-based firm MPR Group joined MGI

MGI Australasia’s AGM on the Gold Coast in Queensland last year was a chance for MGI Worldwide CEO, Clive Bennett to catch up with one of the region’s newest members, Melbourne-based MPR Group.

Clive Bennett spoke to Matt Murphy, managing partner at the firm, which joined MGI at the end of 2015 to hear his reasons why he choose to join our global accounting network.

Why did you decide to join MGI?

A lot of our clients are going global at the moment and we thought it was a great idea for us to be part of an international network and give us a competitive edge in the marketplace. It allows us to compete with other accounting firms that have international reach. 

Did you consider alternatives to MGI?

I looked at the top 40 alliances and who were member firms of those. Fortuitously, there was availability in Melbourne with MGI. When I spoke to Grant Field, the MGI Australasian Chairman,  I felt very comfortable with the values that the member firms display. To have that international leverage, as well as local firms in Australia and New Zealand that had a similar focus and feel to us, was pretty critical.

Are you making use of MGI’s international reach?

Yes, we’ve had a number of enquiries from our clients to ask if we have firms in certain international jurisdictions and we’ve been actively referring those clients. That’s really helped us and our clients.

What do you want to get out of this meeting?

This is our first AGM. It’s great as a knowledge share to see what other member firms are doing. Great keynote speakers also give us more knowledge we can take back to the firm and implement as best practice.
