Very few business owners prioritise charity or community work, but partnering with local initiatives can be a simple, effective way to strengthen your brand and boost staff morale. Here’s what MGI Worldwide member firm Paragraf Tax Advisory and Accountancy, with offices in Komarno, Slovakia, is doing to support local communities and look after their staff.
Charitable endeavours continue despite the pandemic
Paragraf Tax has a strong charity focus and was determined that the pandemic wouldn’t put a stop to this. Despite the challenges, the firm has continued with its annual charity programmes as planned, including supporting an orphanage in Slovakia where they collected clothes for children, and supporting a children’s clinic in Budapest that treats children with cancer. The firm purchased two respiratory devices for the hospital and started a money donation campaign among its clients and friends to purchase further devices.
Diana Balaskó, Managing Director at Paragraf told us about the humbling experience:
“The hospital management was really touched by our initiative and it was a real pleasure for us to help. I received an invitation to the hospital, which was heart-breaking, and agreed with the hospital director that our support program will be ongoing in the future.”
Paragraf Tax is now working on putting this plan into action and when the pandemic has passed, planning a team hospital visit to spend a day with the children playing, reading, walking, and doing what they can to bring some joy into their day.
Supporting employees through the pandemic
Slovakia is experiencing a high number of infections, and since the full lockdown began in December, the firm has looked for practical ways to look after their staff and make life easier and more manageable. With their health and wellbeing at the forefront, a series of creative initiatives have been implemented.
- Fresh made vitamin-rich fruity smoothies
- Waffle days
- Fresh coffee and specialist teas
- Active communication regrading fears, thoughts and feelings
- Home office working options
- Weekly covid testing
- Provision of Vitamins C and D
Keeping clients informed
It’s not just the wellbeing of its staff that concerns the firm, its leadership has also taken care to provide support for its clients. With in-person meetings restricted, Paragraf Tax is making a conscious effort to keep in touch with its clients by post, phone, Skype and Zoom.
From the beginning of the Covid-19 Pandemic, Paragraf Tax made sure to provide its clients with up-to-date information. With the help of its IT team, the firm prepared informative material to share on online forums and send by email to its clients.
Diana explained, “We really wanted to keep in touch with our clients and for them to feel our attention and support in this difficult situation too.”
Diana went on to share a video that the firm has produced aimed at reassuring those in doubt about taking the Covid vaccine. In the video, members of the firm explain why they have decided to be vaccinated, highlighting the positives of a post-vaccine life without the need for facemasks or social distancing and with more freedom of movement.
